Snowboarrrding Redux - Colorado just got greener

A few months ago, I wrote about the three 'R's of snowboarding where I discussed the options one has for recycling old snowboarding gear. The best options of course are to reuse it, or ensure that it gets reused by donating it to those who need it, or re-purpose it as furniture or art. In the case where your gear is so gnashed up that none of those options are viable, the land fill seemed to be the only option for most of us (with the exception of Tri-Vallees in France which turned old ski equipment into fuel for a cement making factory). Well for those of you who live in Colorado, a new option has become available: Colorado Ski & Golf is offering to recycle ski and snowboard equipment for free....

The Westbeach Snowflex Championships - Is this the future of snowboarding?

Bearsden Glasgow recently hosted the first leg of the Westbeach Snowflex Freestyle Competition on Saturday August 16th. This is the northernmost stop of the series which will stop next in Halifax, UK on September 13th. The competition went down with thirty-eigth competitors from as far north as Aberdeen, Scotland, and as far south as London, England. Five hundred spectators were in attendance to enjoy the action as Lynsey Ashdown took the womens title, Pete Meadows the boys under sixteen title, and “Big” Will Smith in the mens division....

Seasonal Worker Shortage - Utterances of 'bollocks' on the decline in CO

I've done my fair share of traveling to resorts to snowboard. One thing that I noticed at many of them is the distinctive kiwi and/or aussie accents of many of the employees. This adds a worldly feel to ski resorts and an added dimension to holidays by exposing you to something you may not experience every day. This may not be the case for very much longer, however, due to changes to immigration policy in the United States....

Late in the season, a common pastime among snowboarders is the infamous gaper hunt. After witnessing this activity in various places, I've been struggling with a very important question: what is the proper pronunciation of the word “gaper”. Everyone seems to have their own take on it and I'd like to take a little time to investigate the etymology of the word....
